A World Away, So Much the Same

I’ve often heard the cliche about us having more in common than we think. Ethiopia is as different from where I live as night and day.

And yet…

Girlfriends hang out and laugh together.

Men and women take pride in their businesses.

And in their homes.

Kids are goofy together.

Fathers teach sons how to ride bikes.

Grandmas babysit.

People go to work.

And out to eat.

Folks worship.

Victories are celebrated

Strangers share a laugh.

I could go on and on.

I wish everyone could see this truth and let it sink into their bones. We are so very different and yet not different at all. That might be the most profound thing I will remember from Ethiopia.
